Fredericia Sygehus hospital has had an environmental approach since 1993, when it initiated a pilot project including its kitchen and one medical department.
It has been ISO-certified since 1998 and EMAS-registered since 2002. In medical departments, it has increased the purchase of reusable equipment, improved waste sorting (dividing it in 20 different groups) and reduced water and energy consumption. As to its kitchen, it has minimized waste of food, has improved its practices in order to reduce water and energy consumption and has raised the amount of ecologic food to more than 30%. The hospital also strives to use cleaning products that carry an environmental brand and as few disposable articles as possible.
