Torshälla Municipality, Sweden
Activity: Public administration
EMAS: S-000254
NACE: 75.1
As Swedish Local Authorities start embracing EMAS, Torshälla district follows Malmös Husie district and made the Eskilstuna Municipality the second ever Local Authority to be validated according to the scheme in Sweden.
Torshälla being a district of high environmental awareness, Eskilstuna had found a perfect pilot site for the Swedish LA EMAS project: From nursery schools to elderly care, from family assistance to museum, public baths and roads the management system covers every environmental aspect of modern municipalities.
Various tasks have been tackled: Nursery schools, Mälarbaden camping site and most of the district work environment have been provided waste separation bins. Infants are taught how to separate and save energy in 'Energijakten' in a pursuit of energy consumption. The 8500 inhabitants find themselves in a pilot project, and it constitutes living quality by municipal environmental management.
