EU Financial assistance to Central & Eastern Europe
The 10 candidate countries of Central Europe benefit from assistance mainly through the Phare Programme where environmental approximation and implementation are supported through each country's National Programme (NPAA). The NPAA sets out in detail how the candidate country in question intends to fulfill the priorities of the Accession Partnership and to prepare for their integration into the EU. In this way, the NPAA lays down the present state of preparation and implementation of EMAS structures, enumerates necessary actions and measures to undertake with a timetable for achieving these and, where possible and relevant, indicates the human and financial resources to be allocated.
In addition, the EU Technical Assistance Information Exchange Programme (TAIEX) has organised several events geared towards the implementation of EMAS and DG Environment itself is also providing assistance through the Life Programme and by co-financing individual projects.
