Basque Country
The 'Environmental Sustainability Strategy of the Basque Country 2002-2020' says that until the year 2006 at least 50 Basque companies have to be EMAS validated (at 20/02/04 they are 20; one year ago only six). The Basque Government's environment subsidies programme makes it possible to finance up to 50% of the EMAS validation and implemetation costs.

EMAS Competent Body Madrid
First of all, we have since 1999, as financial support, an annual subvention aimed to help SMEs in their implementations of environmental management systems, both EMAS and ISO 14001. Right now, we finance up to 100% for EMAS implementations, and up to 75% for ISO 14001 ones, and give priority to EMAS over ISO 14001 in the granting. As non-financial support, the organizations that have implemented EMAS are exempt from certain legal requirements (e.g. waste legislation) and they may have preference in obtaining public contracts.

We offer financial support for the implementation of EMAS every year. This year we have 180.000€ in total. We will give 90% of the total cost for the EMAS directly and 75% for ISO 14001.
