How to build your environmental control panel

Guide

Overview of steps

1. ESTABLISH YOUR INDICATOR SYSTEM

2. ORGANISE YOUR DATA COLLECTION

3. REVIEW YOUR INDICATOR SYSTEM

4. ORGANISE MAINTENANCE AND CALIBRATION

5. CHECK COMPLIANCE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION

In the process of planning and implementing the environmental management system, you have already identified the significant environmental aspects and the legal requirements of your operations.

Based upon these steps, you have defined environmental objectives and targets and implemented procedures to control the operations related with significant environmental aspects.

In order to monitor the significant environmental aspects, you must think of which data you can use for this task. The most widely used tools for monitoring are indicators, not absolute figures, because indicators can be compared.

Environmental indicators summarise extensive environmental data to significant key information – they are your 'Environmental control panel'.
