The Community Eco-management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a management tool for organisations to evaluate, improve and report on their environmental performance.
With the revision of EMAS in 2001 the scheme has been opened to all economic sectors including public and private services. In addition, EMAS has been strengthened by the integration of the international standard EN ISO 14001 as the environmental management system required by EMAS.
This Tool Kit is structured according to the classic Plan-Do-Check-Act management cycle to help you develop and implement an environmental management system according to EN ISO 14001.
With this introduction you have already started on the way to EMAS registration - you have gained an understanding of environmental management issues, and now you have only 19 more steps to achieve effective systematic environmental management of your organisation following the requirements of EMAS.
