Retrival

Retrival, Belgium

Activity: Waste sorting and recycling

Simplified environmental statement

Retrival is vocational integration company that has created 30 jobs since its foundation.

The company acts on various industrial sites in the Walloon Region, in three sectors: waste management, enhancement and greening of sites, and refurbishment of industrial sites.

Retrival is a member of a network of social economy undertakings, Ressources asbl, and is recognized by Recupel (a non-profit organisation that coordinates the collection and recycling of WEEE throughout Belgium).

Retrival creates jobs in the environmental sector, in a spirit of social economy and sustainable development. With its environmental policy, it commits itself to acting for environmental protection and pollution prevention and to going further than legal requirements in this respect. The company supports a process of continual improvement and will carry out the environmental programme described below.

Our Environmental Managemment System (EMS) is applicable to all of Retrival's activities. It takes the distinctiveness of social economy into account and is based on the systematical approach of Ecomapping. Our environmental manager is in charge of planifying, realizing and controling of the EMS, which is participative, informal but rigorous. It implies an on-going training-action of all workers. The EMS is put into place in constant cooperation with Ressources asbl. It shares a common and identical documentation system with this network. Ressources asbl intervenes regularly for legal compliance and also helps with internal audits, training courses and the management review.

External communication is managed actively by Retrival and Ressources asbl.

Validation statement

EMAS
Based on the organisation audit, the visits on its site, interviews with employees and on an analysis of the documents, data and information, AIB-VINÇOTTE International, as an environmental certification body, accredited by Belcert under No. B-017-EMAS, has concluded:

  • that the policy, the programme, the management system, the environmental analysis and the environmental audit procedure as well as the environmental statement are conform to REGULATION (EC) No 761/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 March 2001 allowing voluntary participation by organisations in a Community eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS).
  • that the data and information mentioned in the environmental statement are reliable and that they cover every environmental question that is significant for this organisation.

Our environmental policy

Concerned to preserve the environment for future generations, Retrival commits itself, beyond current legislation, to a continual improvement of the environment and of its protection.

We will focus our efforts on the following items:

  • To integrate our site into its urban and landscape environment
  • To improve our management of flows and our storage policy in order to reduce its impact on the environment
  • To train and make each of us aware of her/his responsabilities regarding her/his working methods and their impact on the environment
  • To favour materials reuse before entering the recycling process; to favour recycling to landfilling
  • To consider prevention as an essential theme in our thinking and in our actions, both internally and towards our clients
  • To manage risks through information, communication and signalling
  • To become a model in environmental matters for our clients and for our partners
  • To convince each of us to represent individually the whole Retrival team
