Our Performance – Raising Awareness

We have delivered four training courses for safe oil storage, and two courses on wildlife and countryside legislation to our own staff.

In our last
Environmental
Statement, we said…..

How did we do?

What are we planning
to do in 2002/2003?

We will increase the level of environmental awareness amongst City Council employees and support the actions of City Council Employees that has a positive environmental impact (Objective RD1)

We would perform training and awareness for specific groups of staff including compliance with regulations for protection of species and conservation (Wildlife and Countryside Act), training for staff handling oils and wastes, training for staff who monitor the performance of Council contractors.

We have held four training events for the safe handling and storage of fuels, two courses for Wildlife and Countryside Act and have developed a course outline for all staff on the 'Green Office'.

We have delivered a marketing campaign aimed at increasing the use of public transport amongst staff.

We have provided regular service of press cuttings, journals and awareness materials to elected members who have registered an interest in environmental issues.

We have established an environmental law 'Alerter' service to ensure accurate and timely delivery of information related to environmental compliance issues is provided to relevant staff.

The service also ensures that relevant government consultation documents and circulars are distributed.

Corporate training courses for 2002/2003 will focus on key EMAS priorities. We will provide one training course for our environmental audit team.

We will provide a briefing / short course on environmental management for elected members.

We will provide training for up to 80 (max) staff on the 'Green Office'.

We will provide further training on safe handling and management of fuels.

We will provide training relevant to the set up of a new recycling system at Leeds Town Hall.

We will provide training for Building Surveyors relevant to legal compliance on construction / demolition sites.
