Torino 2006

TOROC, Italy

Activity: Organising Committee of the XX Olympic Winter Games in 2006

Purchasing policy

The organisation committee of the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games TOROC has activated a Green Procurement programme.

The Green Procurement programme is a system for the procurement of goods and services that fully takes environmental considerations into account within the context of the Torino 2006 Games Organisation activities.

The programme consists in the elaboration of environmental criteria, established for homogenous categories of products and extending throughout their entire life cycle, which are then compared with the products available on the market that are capable of satisfying the said requirements.

These criteria are defined on the basis of recent European and international provisions in environmental matters. Environmental communication instruments, such as the European Eco-label, and voluntary implementation instruments for the environmental management system are, in compliance with community or international standards, considered by TOROC to be highly significant elements when choosing suppliers and products.

At the moment the following merceological categories have been analysed:

  • Paper products (graphics and copying paper)
  • Electronic equipment (computers, printers, photocopiers)
  • Furnishings and Fittings
  • Writing instruments
  • Textile Products
  • Household Appliances
  • Detergents
  • Light bulbs

TOROC plans to develop the Green Procurement system in a progressive manner, with the extension of the number of product groups, so as to include all the main supplies which may prove necessary for the organisation of the Games.

All the suppliers, from the moment they sign the contract, also commit themselves to signing the 'TOROC quality and environmental protection specifications'.
