When the environmental management system has been implemented and the environmental statement has been prepared, the organisation must have them validated by an independent accredited verifier.
This is a unique feature and will give credibility to its environmental management system.
Validation
An independent external party known as an accredited environmental verifier examines the organisations environmental policy, management system, audit procedure(s) and environmental statement to see if they meet EMAS requirements. If the verifier is satisfied with the results of the verification s/he validates the information contained in the companys environmental statement.
Registration
The organisation sends its validated statement to the national EMAS competent body. It must pay a registration fee in some European countries. The organisation is then registered in the official list of EMAS sites.
Statement of participation
The organisation receives the EMAS logos of validated environmental management system and verified environmental information.
