What does EMAS require?

In order to meet the requirements of the section on Objectives and Targets, you have to address one task:

• Establish environmental objectives and targets
  
  Objectives and targets turn the overall environmental policy into bite-sized pieces that can be tackled by the workforce.
  
  The objectives and targets should reflect business considerations as well as the environmental policy, legal requirements and stakeholder views.
  
  The setting of objectives and targets thus flows a blend of financial, technological and organisational requirements into the decision process.

Objectives and targets Most organisations treat 'objectives' and 'targets' as largely interchangeable. However, looking at the definitions of EMAS you will find that objectives are overall goals, and targets are a series of stepping stones toward these goals. In either case, both elements should be measurable wherever possible.
