ISO releases new CD-ROM of ISO 14000 environmental management standards

The collection on one CD-ROM of the ISO 14000 standards for environmental management is a practical tool that ISO has developed to meet the needs of businesses for a strategic approach addressing all aspects of the environmental challenges they face.

The CD-Rom contains 20 published standards of the ISO 14000 family, plus drafts nearing completion, and ISO Guide 64:1997, which deals with the inclusion of environmental aspects in product standards.

The CD-ROM includes:
  • ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 14004:2004 on, respectively, environmental management system requirements and general guidelines, principles and system support techniques;
  • ISO 14050:2002 on the vocabulary used in environmental management;
  • ISO 14015:2001 on the environmental assessment of sites and organizations.

The new drafts include (ISO 14064 parts 1, 2 and 3) on greenhouse gases (GHG). The underlying objective and principles for the development of these standards are to support market development by providing an auditable, credible, standardized process for faster, better, cheaper quantification and verification while maintaining:
  • Neutrality towards specific policies and programmes;
  • Compatibility with the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol rules and provisions; and,
  • Compatibility with the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol (Corporate and Project).
