The American Public Works Association has announced the program details of its 2014 North American Snow Conference, known as "The Show for Snow." More than 1,500 "snowfighters" -- winter maintenance professionals who probably will include some of the workers who are trying to restore power and plow roads this week after a snow and ice storm affected states from Michigan to Maine -- are expected to attend the May 4-7, 2014, event at the Duke Energy Convention Center.

More than 130 companies will exhibit at the event, which features a general session focused on risk, safety, and liability issues. "This year's education program has been developed by a committee of APWA winter maintenance professionals," said Peter B. King, APWA's executive director. "Winter maintenance, weather, fleet management, sustainability, and emergency management in winter operations will be highlighted."

Included are tours of Miami Township's snow fighting facilities, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens’ sustainability program and facilities, and the snow removal and environmental operations of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
